Jed Lacey

Updated: Aug. 12, 2017, 6:18 p.m.

A prayer vigil will be held tonight at the Dawson County High School football field to honor coach and special education teacher Jed Lacey, who was killed in a car wreck this morning on Ga. 400.

Dawson County High School Principal Richard Crumley confirmed the news in an email at noon Saturday.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends," Crumley said. "We will have counselors available to meet with students individually and in small groups on Monday as well as over the coming days and weeks."

What terrible news. Jed was one of the kindest people I knew at DHS. He was always so good to me. Finding out he was a coach was heartwarming. It says that he was a person who wanted to give to others. My heart goes out to his family. I've lived in Georgia for a year now and the highways are awful. So sad that this caused us to lose someone so special.

Another life taken too soon. Sincere thoughts and prayers for his family and so many students and friends that have to deal with this loss.
