Ingrid Mathis (Cote)

This is such sad news. Although we weren't close friends, we did talk quite a bit on the bus. Lisa knew many of the same people I knew but was not close to. One of my favorite stories of Lisa, which I've shared many times over the years illustrates how very small the world really is.

A few years after graduation, my husband Joe and I were living near Washington DC. He was in the USMC and was sent on deployment to Yuma, AZ. While in a bar with commrades, he noticed a girl who's face he couldn't place. He approached her and explained he was not trying to pick her up but she looked so familiar. She said, "Yes, I know your wife, Ingrid." Needless to say, Joe was shocked that he had traveled so far and still could find people that I knew.

I'm sorry that I never took the time to look her up. Life gets so busy and we forget that the people who touched our lives, no matter how great or how small, can be lost. I will miss her despite not making that contact. She was a special person with one infectious smile that could light up the world on a cloudy day. Godspeed to you, Lisa.
