In Memory

John Worden

John Worden, 54, passed away July 26, 2014 as a result of complications following an accident at home. John was a loving husband, wonderful father and an avid fan of Florida State University football. Together with his brother, Howard Clifton, he owned and operated Bob's Radio and TV, a family owned TV and electronics sales and service business opened in DeLand in 1945. He was active in the U. S. Water Ski Association providing technical services in setting up and maintaining on site USWSA tournament courses and the systems necessary to measure and record individual performances. John was a compassionate and caring person, sporting an ever-present, engaging smile and a helping hand. He is loved by and will be missed by people around the world. He is survived by his wife, Brenda May Worden, Orlando; his son, Zack, Windermere; and his daughter, Sydney, Orlando. Additional survivors are brothers, Howard Clifton, DeLand, Robert Clifton, Dunn, North Carolina; sisters, Mindy Boggs, Tallahassee and Pat Clifton, Seattle, Washington and his in-laws, Walter and Rachel May, Deltona. Services will be at the First Presbyterian Church of DeLand on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Visitation is at 11:00 am and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm at the church. John's family, including his extended water ski family, asks that others wishing to honor John's memory make donations in lieu of flowers. Donations may be made to the John Worden Educational Fund, 700 33rd Street, Orlando, FL 32805. The fund helps promote the sport of water skiing by assisting in the education of water skiers and making access to water ski training and competition in USWSA events available to those who would not otherwise be able to train and participate.

John was such a sweet guy, he always was smiling and never a mean word.  He will be missed and my heart goes out to his family.  Terrible to lose someone this soon.

John's family owned the business across the street from our home and across from my parent's gift shop.  After I moved away I know that he and his family kept an eye on my folks and helped them out many times over the years.  When my mother passed away John was quick to come over to the house to offer his sincere condolences. John was a genuine person and will be missed.  My heart goes out to his family.
